“Hollow”

…and reader favorites
“Fairy Gifts”
“Gray”
“Alpha and Omega”
“Seeing Eye”
“The Star of David”
“In Red, with Pearls”

First off: love the shout-out to Fiction Vixen! Nice to see a blogger in a summary – especially one as awesome as FV. 🙂

So, is anyone else CRAZY excited about this anthology? I genuinely tagged this cover #OMG when I spotted it on Pinterest. Any Patricia Briggs announcement is an exciting one, but the Mercy ones are best of all.

Also: I totally ADORE the cover of this anthology. I have never been the biggest fan of the US covers, mainly because of all the bare mid-drifts. But it seems as though the talented Dan Dos Santos (and the publishers) is finally moving away from that trend. The recent Alpha & Omega and Mercy covers (this one especially) have been totally up my alley! LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Waiting on wednesday-anthology

Who doesn’t love a good anthology?! I spotted these three anthologies on Pinterest and absolutely HAD to put them on my wishlist. Totally different concepts that aren’t already on the market. I mean, Sci-Fi by gals? Totally, totally up my alley and an underrated area!

The Mammoth Book of Warriors and Wizardry edited by Sean Wallace (goodreads) – November 11th 2014 by Running Press

This anthology brings together a stellar collection of short fantasy from authors who have made an impact on the genre over the last decade, along with some bestselling favorites, like George R. R. Martin, Naomi Novik, and Jay Lake.

The Mammoth Book of SF Stories by Women edited by Alex Dally MacFarlane (goodreads) – December 2nd 2014

This anthology showcases the most exceptional science fiction stories written by women in recent decades, from classic stars like Ursula K. Le Guin and James Tiptree Jr. to science-fiction greats such Nancy Kress, Lois McMaster Bujold, and Karen Joy Fowler to new award-winning talents.

Rogues edited by George R. R. Martin and Gardner Dozois (goodreads) June 17th 2014 by Bantam

If you’re a fan of fiction that is more than just black and white, this latest story collection from #1 New York Times bestselling author George R. R. Martin and award-winning editor Gardner Dozois is filled with subtle shades of gray. Twenty-one all-original stories, by an all-star list of contributors, will delight and astonish you in equal measure with their cunning twists and dazzling reversals. And George R. R. Martin himself offers a brand-new A Game of Thrones tale chronicling one of the biggest rogues in the entire history of Ice and Fire.

Gosh, reading these over is making me long for a good sitdown with an anthology. Any picks, people?

Mortal Danger by Ann Aguirre

Goodreads – August 5th 2014 by Feiwel & Friends

Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Edie Kramer has a score to settle with the beautiful people at Blackbriar Academy. Their cruelty drove her to the brink of despair, and four months ago, she couldn’t imagine being strong enough to face her senior year. But thanks to a Faustian compact with the enigmatic Kian, she has the power to make the bullies pay. She’s not supposed to think about Kian once the deal is done, but devastating pain burns behind his unearthly beauty, and he’s impossible to forget.

In one short summer, her entire life changes, and she sweeps through Blackbriar, prepped to take the beautiful people down from the inside. A whisper here, a look there, and suddenly… bad things are happening. It’s a heady rush, seeing her tormentors get what they deserve, but things that seem too good to be true usually are, and soon, the pranks and payback turns from delicious to deadly. Edie is alone in a world teeming with secrets and fiends lurking in the shadows. In this murky morass of devil’s bargains, she isn’t sure who—or what–she can trust. Not even her own mind…

OMG a new Ann Aguirre book! Having finished her YA Enclave trilogy – which I loved – I am super super excited about her coming out with MORE YA novels. She is one of my all-time favourite authors.

Waiting on Wednesday: Dirty Magic by Jaye Wells

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that are being eagerly anticipated.

Dirty Magic (The Prospero's War #1) by Jaye Wells

Dirty Magic (The Prospero’s War #1) by Jaye Wells – Goodreads

Out on January 21st 2014 by Orbit

The first in an all-new urban fantasy series by USA Today bestseller Jaye Wells.

The last thing patrol cop Kate Prospero expected to find on her nightly rounds was a werewolf covered in the blood of his latest victim. But then, she also didn’t expect that shooting him would land her in the crosshairs of a Magic Enforcement Agency task force, who wants to know why she killed their lead snitch.

The more Prospero learns about the dangerous new potion the MEA is investigating, the more she’s convinced that earning a spot on their task force is the career break she’s been wanting. But getting the assignment proves much easier than solving the case. Especially once the investigation reveals their lead suspect is the man she walked away from ten years earlier—on the same day she swore she’d never use dirty magic again.

Kate Prospero’s about to learn the hard way that crossing a wizard will always get you burned, and that when it comes to magic, you should be never say never.

Jaye Wells is an auto-buy author for me. I loved her Sabina Kane series, and pretty much trust her with any genre of UF. If she can handle vampires, her take on witches and werewolves is going to be brilliant. Can’t wait to nab this one!

Waiting on Wednesday: Second Star by Alyssa B. Sheinmel

Second Star by Alyssa B. Sheinmel

Second Star by Alyssa B. Sheinmel – Goodreads

Out on May 13th 2014 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux (BYR)

A twisty story about love, loss, and lies, this contemporary oceanside adventure is tinged with a touch of dark magic as it follows seventeen-year-old Wendy Darling on a search for her missing surfer brothers. Wendy’s journey leads her to a mysterious hidden cove inhabited by a tribe of young renegade surfers, most of them runaways like her brothers. Wendy is instantly drawn to the cove’s charismatic leader, Pete, but her search also points her toward Pete’s nemesis, the drug-dealing Jas. Enigmatic, dangerous, and handsome, Jas pulls Wendy in even as she’s falling hard for Pete. A radical reinvention of a classic, Second Star is an irresistible summer romance about two young men who have yet to grow up–and the troubled beauty trapped between them.

I wouldn’t typically go for this type of coming-of-age novel, but I really like the idea behind Second Star. I mean, a retelling of Peter Pan? Now that’s one I haven’t heard of!
