In My Mailbox (March 20th, 2011)

I haven’t done an IMM in months. Months and months and months. And the honest truth? I haven’t been doing much book shopping either. But I have been accumulating one new book here and there, and I’ve just realised that it’s adding up!

My laptop camera is super crappy, but I’ve included the images nonetheless.  One of the OMGYAY books I received was Enclave by Ann Aguirre – I peeled off the cover to reveal the old, illustrated Razorland cover.  It’s a fab book, and came with an CD in the back!  Very nice.

For Review:

Bought:

  • The Iron Witch by Karen Mahoney – This is the lovely special gold-rimmed edition… gorgeous.
  • Enclave by Ann Aguirre – Photo is of the original Razorland cover – sent for review.  Buy this in hardcover.
  • Angel by L.A. Weatherly
  • The Dead-Tossed Waves by Carrie Ryan
  • Darkborn by Alison Sinclair
  • Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly – I’ve read about 20-or-so pages of this and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

*wipes brow*  Perhaps I’m just out of practice, but just putting this post together was exhausting!  Hope y’all had a great week, and I’ll see you back here again next week with some actual reviews!

Yay!  I have new books this week!  You might have noticed a sad lack of IMM posts as of late – that’s because I am taking time to work through my massive TBR pile and save some money.  But… I received two wonderful books for review this week – both of which I have been eagerly anticipating – and I am eager to share the joy:

  • Mercy by Rebecca Lim (Thanks Harper Collins UK!) – Mercy looks like a fantastic start to a new YA Angel series, with some romance, mystery and gorgeous cover (which, alas, my poor camera does not properly show!).  Can’t wait to start this one!
  • Immortal Beloved by Cate Tiernan (Thanks Hodder & Stoughton!) – The first book in a paranormal YA trilogy about a disillusioned 450-year-old party girl.  This one is out already in the US, and will be coming to UK shores 6th January 2011.

Claire de Lune by Christine Johnson - US Cover

I won a bunch of Firelight and other PNR/UF goodies from Anna (over at Anna’s Book Blog). Ooh, and a copy of Torment by Lauren Kate, I liked Fallen ok but am curious to see if Torment is better.

I also bought a copy of Claire de Lune by Christine Johnson – Christine will be here on Thursday with a guest post as part of her Claire in the UK blog tour.  She also sent me a few lovely Claire bookmarks and signed bookplates:

I will be giving away some of the signed goodies this week – it’s not fair for me to hog them all!  So check back later to read Christine’s guest post and sign up for the giveaway!

This has been a seriously stressful/busy week for me (as the lack of posts demonstrate!) but it has all been made right by a few new gems I got. I just wanted to say Hello! to the few new followers from this week, and let you know there is usually more going on!

I have not bought any new books in, say, 3 weeks? So this week – even though I only got a few – was absolutely fantastic.  Not to mention they are books I have wanted for a while!  Soo… here they are:

  • 13 to Life by Shannon Delany – I Hmmed and Hawed over getting this at full price at Foyle, but the Ann Aguirre quote at the back sold it!
  • Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
  • Dark Life by Kat Falls – Has a lovely quote on the cover by Jenny over at Wondrous Reads!
  • Doubleblind by Ann Aguirre
  • Wanderlust by Ann Aguirre – Yay for Sirantha Jax!  I absolutely adored Grimspace, and just had to get the next books.  The covers are so flippin’ gorgeous – whenever they get around to making the UK editions, I hope they keep them! Wanderlust is in my bag as we speak!

I also got a fantastic Book Journal made by Moleskine that keeps track of thoughts about the books you read.  My motivation for getting is that – although I review books on DBD – I don’t always remember my off-the-bat opinions about the book.  Also, for the books that I read that I think y’all might not be interested in, I have a place to keep a review for myself!  It is really nice – and while I do see some potential issues with the alphabetization system that it has – I am looking forward to filling it up!

So, that’s this week!  What did y’all get?

In My Mailbox (August 29th, 2010)

This will likely be my last IMM for the next 3-4 weeks (unless I get a chance to visit a bookstore next weekend – let’s hope people!) as I might be moving from the UK for a while.  I really do want to stay in London (*hugs city*) but I might be getting a great job on the continent.  SO… that means less compulsive book buying from my favourite second hand stores and more measured, thought-out purchases online.  *rolls eyes*

Anyhow, here’s what I got this week!  ALL of these were found in second hand stores, so I think I spent £10?  Bargain.

Was very excited about my copy of Storm Front!  With 15+ books in the series, finding the first one on sale was tough!

Also, dear dear Forbidden Planet, what was with the lack of Sirantha Jax series?  Awesome science fiction that you have… zero copies of?  Hell, even Foyles had Grimspace!  Not cool.

I got back to London on Friday and got to visit my shelves (Oh, how I missed my books) – finally got some of the books I had ordered! Not too many, as I have not had the chance to go book shopping, but after the book buying drought I have been in these are a super treat!

For Review:

  • Dark Goddess by Sarwat Chadda
  • Time Riders by Alex Scarrow – Just started this and it is FUN FUN FUN.

Bought:

  • City of Ghosts by Stacia Kane
  • Luna by Julie Anne Peters

and… Linger by Maggie Stiefvater! – THIS FINALLY CAME.  The US edition is beautiful and I am really glad that I got it.  It has an embossed leaf on the cover, some lovely artwork on the title page AND all of the text is in dark green!  Very very cool. ♥
