Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
Goodreads – YA – February 7th 2012 by HarperCollins (US) / ATOM (UK)
EXILED from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland—known as the Death Shop—are slim. If the cannibals don’t get her, the violent energy storms will. She’s been taught that the very air she breathes can kill her. Then Aria meets an outsider named Perry. He’s wild—a savage— and her only hope of staying alive. Because they must, they will struggle together to survive. Aria and Perry forge an unlikely alliance—one that will determine the fate of all who live under the never sky.
OK, so I never planned to do a WoW for Under the Never Sky. I figured that you were all smart, and had already spotted the summary and cover online, after which you immediately added it to your wishlist. Fantastic summary, stunning cover, and great publisher = wishlist must. So, I kept my interest in this novel under wraps.
So, besides telling you how much I’ve (secretly, apparently) been longing for this book… I’d like to complain about the recently released UK cover. Because, OMG WT-bloody-F?? When I spotted this cover on Tez Says my first reaction was “oh dear, what poor novel ended up with that monstrosity?”… and then I saw the title. Let’s all start praying to every god in the phone book that there is still time for ATOM to correct this overly-tanned, PNR monstrosity of a cover!

Chapter 33 “Prince’s Tale” – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
by Kay | Aug 1, 2011 | Weekly Feature |
In this weekly event hosted by One Persons Journey Through a World Of Books where we discuss what we’ve been reading this week (and, occasionally, what we haven’t).
I had such a mangled reading week: one fabulous book and one epically disappointing book. I had been on a reading high, and now I am way down in the reading dumps… life is hard when you don’t have a good book in hand!
Currently Reading:
- Heat Stroke by Rachel Caine – This is book 2 in her Weather Warden series and, while I am enjoying it, I remember absolutely nothing from Ill Wind! Who were the bad guys? Why was Jo on the run? When did David become the one-true-love? I wish I had answers to these questions… but apparently one can read Heat Stroke without remembering these details. There’s all new plots to forget!
Finished this week:
- Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs – With every book my adoration of Patricia Briggs grows stronger. Cry Wolf was absolutely fantastic in that “Wow. I am incapable of reviewing this” sort of way!
- The Society of S by Susan Hubbard – After 180 pages of interesting, intellectual writing, Susan Hubbard shoots the book down by making her main character absolutely detestable. I skim-read the rest of this book hoping for improvement… there was none.
Reviewed this week:
Up Next from the TBR pile:
- Oh dear, I don’t know! I know that I want to read Ann Aguirre, Patricia Briggs, Maggie Stiefvater, Kelley Armstrong, and, maybe, some Caitlin Kitteredge… but what should I read? Maybe Kitty and the Midnight Hour by Carrie Vaughn? I loved her short story Amaryllis and have had the book on my TBR pile for almost 2 years!
So tell me, what have you been reading this week?

I read an unusual amount of books this week: FIVE. I probably managed it because they were all YA, which tend to rather small compared with full-on adult fiction.
- Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs – Every time I start a Patricia Briggs book, I remember how much I adore her writing… and then I finish her books and promptly forget her awesomeness. But she is. Awesome, that is.
Finished this week:
- The Glass Demon by Helen Grant – Very enjoyable – I am certainly going to be checking out some more Helen Grant novels.
- Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor – God, this was gorgeous! Very very very different take on your standard YA novel. Can’t wait to review it!
- Siren by Tricia Rayburn – Not bad. I wasn’t over the moon, but I think some people may love it.
- Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins – Solid middle-of-a-trilogy novel. Although if I had known what was coming in Mockingjay, I might have been more appreciative…
- Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins – The more I think about this book the more annoyed I get. Yes, it was great. But at the same time, WOW did it piss me off.
Up next from the TBR pile:
- Happy novels. After reading Mockingjay, I plan on only reading books that are either a) full of cheer, or b) from writers I adore so much that just looking at the cover makes me smile.

Kiss Crush Collide by Christina Meredith
Goodreads – YA – December 27th 2011 by Greenwillow Books
Leah has the life most high school girls would kill for—popularity, glowing grades, a rich, athletic boyfriend. So why does she feel like she can’t breathe? And why can’t she stop thinking about the boy from the country club? The one who isn’t her boyfriend, the one that her mother would never, ever approve of, the one that her perfect older sisters would never, ever look at twice. The one who is always looking back at her. Irresistible attraction, smoldering glances, the bad boy and the good girl—Kiss Crush Collide has everything that a steamy forbidden romance should, and then some.
With graceful and honest writing and an electric love story, this is a book about growing into your own skin. For fans of Perfect Chemistry, Sarah Dessen, and John Green.
I know absolutely nothing about this book beyond the summary and the cover – and all I can see is Perfect Chemistry, Perfect Chemistry, Perfect Chemistry. And you know what? I’m kinda looking for a new Perfect Chemistry – so I’d be pretty damn happy if that’s what this book turns out to be like! I’m looking forward to hearing more about the author (this is her debut) and the novel closer to the release date.

In this weekly event hosted by One Persons Journey Through a World Of Books where we discuss what we’ve been reading this week (and, occasionally, what we haven’t). Since I did not do a Monday Reading post last week, here’s what I’ve been reading over the last 2 weeks. Good bookish times.
- The Glass Demon by Helen Grant – Very, very good book. This is smart YA and has reassured me that, no, YA publishers don’t consider all of their readers idiots.
Finished over the last 2 weeks:
- Bitten by Kelley Armstrong – I enjoyed this, but I wasn’t completely overwhelmed by it. I do look forward to continuing the series, though!
- A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin – Although, yes, this book is 800 pages, it is a pretty quick read for its size. It took me about a week to get through it and I LOVED it (although, I admit, I might maybe possibly prefer the show *avoids stoning*).
Up next from the TBR pile:
- I think I need to crack down and read some review books… maybe Siren by Tricia Rayburn? I’ve wanted to read it for quite a while now, but haven’t gotten to it yet!
