monday reading

It’s Monday! What are you reading this week? is a weekly event hosted by One Persons Journey Through a World Of Books where we discuss our week of reading!

My reading week has been busy busy busy.  I’ve been reading away, but have only managed to finish one book!  The trouble is, all the books I am reading right now are fantastic – and I don’t really want to leave any to the side.  But I may have to, seeing as how my brain is starting to hurt from all these different characters running through it…

Currently Reading:

  • Night Shift by Lilith Saintcrow – Was reading this last night and remembered how much I love Lili’s heroines. Really need to buckle down and finish this one!
  • Green-Eyed Demon by Jaye Wells – It’s Jaye Wells and set in New Orleans: needless to say I am loving it!
  • Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes – I am kinda weirded out by the relationship in this one, but enjoying the writing. We’ll see…

Finished this week:

  • Ghost Town by Rachel Caine – Disappointing. This was the first book (since Glass House at least) from the series that I have not enjoyed. The characters just felt… off. Let’s hope the shark has not been jumped!

Reviews:

Notice how I am not mentioning any up-next-from-the-TBR books – I really need to get through the books I am reading and not focus on the books I want to read!

Monday Reading (Feb. 14th, 2011)

It’s Monday! What are you reading this week? is a weekly event hosted by One Persons Journey Through a World Of Books where we discuss our week of reading!

Currently Reading:

  • Ghost Town by Rachel Caine – I admit it,  I started this book while I was half way through about ten others.  Tis for shame, but I am enjoying it none the less.  I am such a Myrnin fan, and this book has plenty of him!
  • Night Shift by Lili St. Crow – Still working my way through this one.  My plan for my next day off is to just sit my way through it!
  • Green-Eyed Demon by Jaye Wells – I adore this series and this book has been just as fab as the first two!
Finished Reading:
  • Delirium by Lauren Oliver – Absolutely loved this – such an elegant, lyrical book.
Up next from the TBR pile:
  • Enclave by Ann Aguirre – It is taking every ounce of will I have in me to not start this!

Waiting on Wednesday: Siren’s Storm by Lisa Papademetriou

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that are being eagerly anticipated.

sirens storm papademetriouSiren’s Storm by Lisa Papademetriou
Goodreads – August 9th 2011 by Knopf Books for Young Readers

Nothing has been the same for Will ever since what happened last summer. One day, on an ordinary sailing trip with his brother, there is a strange accident. When Will wakes up, he learns his brother has disappeared, presumed drowned. Worst of all, Will can’t remember what happened—his family finds him unconscious, with no memory of the accident.

Now Will and his best friend and neighbor, Gretchen, are starting a new summer. Gretchen seems troubled—her sleepwalking habit is getting worse, and she keeps waking up closer and closer to the water. Will is drawn to Asia, the exotic new girl in town. Nobody knows where she’s from—all Will knows is that her beauty and her mesmerizing voice have a powerful effect on people.

Then there is another mysterious drowning, and Will and Gretchen begin to wonder: Is Asia just another beautiful, wealthy summer resident? Or is she something entirely more sinister . . . and inhuman?

There is something quite spooky and sinister about this book.  Perhaps it’s only the cover (creepy green eyes, and the line”vengeance is eternal”) but the summary also gives me goosebumps.  I’m hoping that this Siren story will take a more sinister look and mermaids – considering their legendary love for killing/stealing young men from ships, you’d think they’d be the villain in stories more often!  The average Ariel, I’m afraid, is not such a nice gal.

monday reading

It’s Monday! What are you reading this week? is a weekly event hosted by One Persons Journey Through a World Of Books where we discuss our week of reading!

Currently Reading:

  • Night Shift by Lilith Saintcrow – This novel has been neglected yet again this week – but it is not alone!
  • Your Face Tomorrow by Javier Marias – This one is my bus-read.  The shameful truth is that I know too many people who ride the same bus line as I do, and “outing” myself as a UF/YA fan would involve too much mockery.  That isn’t to say that Javier Marias isn’t fantastic, ’cause he is.
  • Green-Eyed Demon by Jaye Wells – I ADORE this series and really wish I were at my computer long enough to enjoy the NetGalley… but I’m not.  I will finish it (and no doubt, love it) off the screen, but I am still eagerly anticipating the paperback to snuggle with.

Finished this week:

  • Friday Night Bites by Chloe Neill – Not as fab as the first book in the Chicagoland series, but still pretty brilliant.  I adore Neill’s Chicago.  Chicagoland Vamps + The Good Wife = Me thinking the city is the centre of all awesome on the planet.

Reviews this week:

Up next from the TBR pile:

  • Delirium by Lauren Oliver – A neglected review book that I am longing to start.

Waiting on Wednesday: Shattered Souls by Mary Lindsey

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that are being eagerly anticipated.

Shattered Souls by Mary LindseyShattered Souls by Mary Lindsey
Goodreads – December 8, 2011 from Philomel/Penguin

A dark and dangerous forbidden love story about a Speaker who helps lingering ghosts pass to the spirit world and the Protector who has pledged to serve her.

I’m going to be completely honest with you guys – I am only into this book because of the cover. I am that lecherous lass in the library drooling over the art, unconcerned by the content. Of course, we currently don’t have much of a summary to go off of… but if the novel turns out to be only 10% as great as the cover then I am going to love it.

Oh, and Mary Lindsey is a 2011 Debut Author!  How ’bout that for incentive?

ETA:  I just went and corrected a typo in the summary here and on Goodreads.  Yeah, that really goes to show how very little there is on this book.

Monday Reading 3
It’s Monday! What are you reading this week? is a weekly event hosted by One Persons Journey Through a World Of Books where we discuss our week of reading!
Currently Reading:
  • Night Shift by Lilith Saintcrow – This book has been slightly neglected this week, although not as much as some of the other books I am half way through.  It has that edgy darkness that Lilith St. Crow does so very well – great UF.

Finished this week:

  • Mercy by Rebecca Lim – I really, really enjoyed this book once I got into it!  It had soo much ethereal goodness in it – really recommend it.
  • Immortal Beloved by Cate Tiernan – This was good but it wasn’t quite as action-packed as I expected.

Reviewed this week:

Up next from the TBR pile:

  • Delirium by Lauren Oliver – I need to get to this one asap!
  • Green-Eyed Demon by Jaye Wells – I have this one my Netgalley and OMG I want to get to this book rightnowplease.
