On My Wishlist (Mar. 13th, 2010)

Bloody Good (Brytewood, #1) by Georgia Evans
This adorable ditty is a cross between PNR and historical fiction – vamps in a sleepy English town during WWII.

While the sounds of battle echo through the sky, a lady doctor has more than enough trouble to keep her busy even in a sleepy hamlet outside London. But the threat is nearer home than Alice knows. German agents have infiltrated her beloved countryside – Nazis who can fly, read minds, and live forever.

They’re not just fascists. They’re vampires.

Alice has no time for fantasy, but when the corpses start appearing sucked dry, she’ll have to accept help where she can get it. If that includes a lowly Conscientious Objector who says he’s no coward though he refuses to fight, and her very own grandmother, a sane, sensible woman who insists that she’s a Devonshire Pixie, so be it. Indeed, whatever it takes to defend home and country from an evil both ancient and terrifyingly modern…

The Laurentine Spy by Emily Gee
I have read quite a few amazing reviews for this book – apparently it is everything a fantasy book should be!  Romance, intrigue, attempted murder – oh my!

Following on from the success of Emily’s award nominated first novel, comes The Laurentine Spy. Two spies must work together to avoid being caught at whatever cost.

The Corhonase citadel is a place of virtue and debauchery. But nothing is as it seems, whether in the ballrooms and salons of the nobles’ Court or the catacombs beneath the citadel.

Saliel has many secrets; her spying is one, but her most guarded mystery is her magic. She walks a narrow path between discovery as a spy and being burned as a witch. With a sadistic Spycatcher closing in, Saliel and her fellow spies are tested to the limits of their endurance—they must trust each other, or die. Magic may be their only hope of survival…

Young Adult – April 6th 2010 by Orbit

Only two weeks ago, life was all too predictable. But that was before I saw my first ghost. Now, along with my supernatural friends Tori, Derek, and Simon, I’m on the run from the Edison Group, which genetically altered us as part of their sinister experiment. We’re hiding in a safe house that might not be as safe as it seems. We’ll be gone soon anyway, back to rescue those we’d left behind and to take out the Edison Group . . . or so we hope.

It is no secret that I am completely obsessed with this series (hello? *points at layout*) And since we are finally get near to the release date – I can’t believe I have been lusting over this for a year – I thought I should remind you of the amazingness that lies ahead! This is the final book from Chloe and I getting positively giddy thinking about it.

If you haven’t picked up the first book in the trilogy, The Summoning… then run out now and buy it!

On My Wishlist (Mar. 6th, 2010)

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It’s where I list all the books I desperately want but haven’t actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming.

Lips Touch: Three Times by Laini Taylor
This is supposed to be an amazing book – has won loads of awards and, well, I haven’t read a bad review for it yet. Not to mention fab illustrations!

Three tales of supernatural love, each pivoting on a kiss that is no mere kiss, but an action with profound consequences for the kissers’ souls:

Goblin Fruit: In Victorian times, goblin men had only to offer young girls sumptuous fruits to tempt them to sell their souls. But what does it take to tempt today’s savvy girls?

Spicy Little Curses: A demon and the ambassador to Hell tussle over the soul of a beautiful English girl in India. Matters become complicated when she falls in love and decides to test her curse.

Hatchling: Six days before Esme’s fourteenth birthday, her left eye turns from brown to blue. She little suspects what the change heralds, but her small safe life begins to unravel at once. What does the beautiful, fanged man want with her, and how is her fate connected to a mysterious race of demons?

Snitch by Allison van Diepen
This looks like a really dark, tough young adult book – and what about that kick-ass cover?  Has a bit of danger, and bit of romance, and no vampires!

“In a school run by gangs, staying out was harder than joining. We knew who our friends were, and were careful what we said. If people thought we were haters, it would only be a matter of time…”

Lines are clearly marked at South Bay High School. It’s mixed territory for the Crips and the Bloods, which means the drama never stops.

Julia DiVino wants none of it. No colors, no C-Walks — it’s just not her thing.

But when Eric Valienté jumps into her life, everything changes. Lines are redrawn. And then they’re crossed.

Waiting on Wednesday – Mind Games by Carolyn Crane

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that are being eagerly anticipated.

Mind Games by Carolyn Crane
Urban Fantasy – March 23rd 2010 by Spectra

While the citizens of Midcity are being terrorized by paranormal crime, Justine Jones is battling the paralyzing hypochondria that’s ruining her life. She’d do anything to break free.

She gets her chance when Packard, a handsome mastermind with strange powers, peers into her soul and invites her to join his psychological hit squad.

At first, Justine enjoys being part of the glamorous, thrilling world of neurotic vigilantes who battle Midcity’s depraved and paranormal criminals, though as a crimefighter, she’s far more like Monk than Anita Blake.

She also enjoys the unexpected affection that blossoms between her and Packard. But little by little, Justine begins to uncover strange secrets: like why Packard hasn’t set foot outside the Mongolian Delites restaurant for eight years. And the truth about the disillusionists. Soon their affection is destroyed in an angry inferno.

Things become more complicated when Justine falls for her most dangerous target, a dashing crime boss with a penchant for opera and paranoia about brain hemorrhages. Is he a ruthless criminal or her soulmate? How will she keep Midcity from sliding into a bloodbath?

This debut novel by blogger-turned-author Carolyn Crane looks really amazing.  She has gotten a stellar quote from none other than Ann Aguirre!  I have a feeling this one will make this big leagues (speaking of which, she is also a member of the League of Reluctant Adults – check out their awesome blog.)
