Finished this week:

  • Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs – This was brilliant and scary – and tragic.  Really looking forward to devouring the next!
  • The Reckoning by Kelley Armstrong! – WOW.  This book exceeded all expectations and was simply mind-blowing.  The year long wait was totally worth it – I only wish it were 500 pages longer!

On My Wishlist (Mar. 27th, 2010)

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It’s where I list all the books I desperately want but haven’t actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming.

Lament: The Faerie Queen’s Deception (Books of Faerie, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater
After finally reading Shiver, I am desperately craving more Stiefvater goodness! Oh, and if you haven’t read Shiver yet – go NOW.

Sixteen-year-old Deirdre Monaghan is a painfully shy but prodigiously gifted musician. She’s about to find out she’s also a cloverhand – one who can see faeries. Deirdre finds herself infatuated with a mysterious boy who enters her ordinary suburban life, seemingly out of thin air. Trouble is, the enigmatic and gorgeous Luke turns out to be a gallowglass – a soulless faerie assassin.

An equally hunky – and equally dangerous – dark faerie soldier named Aodhan is also stalking Deirdre. Sworn enemies, Luke and Aodhan each have a deadly assignment from the Faerie Queen. Namely, kill Deirdre before her music captures the attention of the Fae and threatens the Queen’s sovereignty.

Caught in the crossfire with Deirdre is James, her wisecracking but loyal best friend. Deirdre had been wishing her life weren’t so dull, but getting trapped in the middle of a centuries-old faerie war isn’t exactly what she had in mind…

Light Beneath Ferns by Anne Spollen
This supernatural YA novel is supposed to be a cut above the rest. I haven’t read a bad review for it yet, and it am really intrigued to find out what all the fuss is about!

I have this strange sense that my silence is preparing me for something I can’t name…

Elizah Rayne is nothing like other fourteen-year-old girls. More interested in bird bones than people, she wraps herself in silence. Trying to escape the shadow of her gambler father, Elizah and her mother move into an old house that borders a cemetery. All her mother wants is for them to have “normal” lives. But that becomes impossible for Elizah when she finds a human jawbone by the river and meets Nathaniel, a strangely hypnotic boy who draws Elizah into his dreamlike and mysterious world.

Only by forgetting everything she knows can Elizah understand the truth about Nathaniel—and discover an unimaginable secret.

Waiting on Wednesday – Kiss of Death by Rachel Caine

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that are being eagerly anticipated.

Kiss Of Death by Rachel Caine
Paranormal Young Adult – Morganville Vampires, #8
May 3rd 2010 by Allison & Busby (UK) and Signet (US)

Vampire musician Michael Glass has attracted the attention of a big- time producer who wants to cut a demo and play some gigs-which means Michael will have to enter the human world. For this, he’s been assigned escorts that include both a dangerous immortal as well as Michael’s all-too-human friends. And with that mix of personalities, this is going to be a road trip from hell…

I am eagerly awaiting my next Morganville fix. If you haven’t read any of Caine’s kick-ass series, you really should start now! I’d say it is the best YA series on sale… although the Vampire Academy series comes pretty close!

Waiting on Wednesday – The Sorcerer of Sainte Felice by Ann Finnin

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that are being eagerly anticipated.

The Sorcerer of Sainte Felice by Ann Finnin
Young Adult/Fantasy – June 1st 2010 by Flux – Goodreads

I was only an apprentice. I swear it. By all the angels in Heaven.

Fourteen-year-old Michael de Lorraine has been condemned to death by the Holy Office for sorcery. But just as the flames threaten to consume him, Michael is saved by Abbot Francis and granted refuge at the Benedictine monastery of Sainte Felice. Michael learns that this strange and wonderful place, famous for its healing wine, harbors renegade monk-sorcerers, enchanted gargoyles, and a closely guarded secret: Abbot Francis is the great Seratois, exiled Grand Master of the Fratres Illuminati.

As the church intensifies its cruel efforts at justice, Abbot Francis and the brotherhood are in grave danger. Michael will do anything to protect his mentor, but are his powers great enough to save the monastery from the merciless, bloodthirsty Inquisition?

Blending together magic, miracles, and historical details of life in fifteenth-century France, this unique fantasy offers a vibrant portrayal of one boy’s journey of faith.

This looks like a really interesting historical young adult novel. It has a bit of magic and a bit of the Inquisition – kinda awesome, huh? I know absolutely nothing about the author and am really curious to see what she comes up with!
