Forsaken by Jana Oliver
January 7th 2011 by Macmillan Children’s Books
Riley has always wanted to be a Demon Trapper like her father, and she’s already following in his footsteps as one of the best. But it’s tough being the only girl in an all-guy world, especially when three of those guys start making her life more complicated: Simon, the angelic apprentice who has heaven on his side; Beck, the tough trapper who thinks he’s God’s gift, and Ori, the strikingly sexy stranger who keeps turning up to save her ass.One thing’s for sure – if she doesn’t keep her wits about her there’ll be hell to pay…

I love the sound of this book. For starters, I think the heroine is going to be pretty damn kick-ass. It could be that I am still suffering from epic fail that was Hush, Hush (I swear to God, that book was written in the 60s) and am in desperate need of a girl who juggles romances and kills things. *sighs*
Anyhow, wish we had a few more details about this book. I mean, there’s obviously some sort of angel connection – what with the wings on the cover and the “angelic” apprentice. But, reading even further into the cover, perhaps a boarding school may be involved? *ponders*

My Teaser is here.
OMG! I can’t believe you called Hush Hush an epic fail! I thought so too!!!!!!!!!! And I have met NO ONE who agrees with me until now! YES!
wow! I haven’t heard of this before, but it sounds like its right up my alley!
Thanks for sharing, I will be adding it to my TBR List!
I love the cover of this one and it sounds like a fun read!
I don’t usually chime in, but since you asked some great questions I figured I’d better reply. I’m the author of FORSAKEN so here’s a bit of inside info:
First, thanks for the appreciative comments about the cover. It’s so cool! I just went crazy when my UK editor sent it to me.
I’m a big fan of books that mix angst with action. Too much either way and you have me yawning so I tried really hard to find the right balance. Riley does kick butt, mostly to save her friends and family. She’s definitely a 17 y/o, so not all her decisions turn out for the best. There are consequences to her actions.
The series is set in Atlanta in the year 2018. The economy has not improved so Riley attends class in an shuttered grocery store because the school system has no funds.
She has a lot on her plate — the hassles with the guys in the Trappers Guild, boyfriend drama, the increasing number of demons in the city and all the intrigues swirling around her.
Depending on how you look at that nifty winged graphic on the front cover, it can either be an angel or a demon. That fits the series perfectly because I always like to do the unexpected.
Thanks for letting me post this! It’s really wonderful to see the interest in this book.
I think this sounds awesome, too! Especially after reading Jana Oliver’s comments!

@Jana – Wow. You’re comment made me want to read this even more! Thanks so much for sharing. ♥
Thanks, folks. I really love writing Riley’s adventures. Keeps me on my toes dreaming up new kinds of demons and then figuring out how to trap them.
